Our Volunteers Make a Difference!

Hospice of Holland is so thankful for its wonderful volunteers! Without their service and dedication, we would not be able to provide "The Care for Living." Each brings his or her own unique skills and talents to their position and is invaluable to our patients, families and staff.

Many of our volunteers have chosen to serve the community by working closely with our patients and families in active patient care or by providing bereavement support to individuals experiencing a loss. This is one of the most intimate, and most needed ways volunteers are involved with our program.

By forming a close relationship with the patient, the volunteer helps to maintain or re-establish the patient’s sense of self-worth and can give family members increased freedom to live a more normal life. The Hospice volunteer becomes involved with the daily lives of the family members. A volunteer’s visit provides a sympathetic ear and friendly face for both the patient and family members. Volunteers help in a variety of ways. "Comforting Choices", a complementary care program, provides additional opportunities to assist with patient well-being through pet therapy, art, music, remembrance-life review and massage.

Our bereavement volunteers have been matched carefully to the individual’s needs and are able to offer support, companionship and non-judgmental listening. During a very difficult time, the support of our volunteers is often very comforting.

Also, you can almost always find volunteers at our office answering phones, filing, stuffing envelopes, doing yard work and so many other things that help the organization run smoothly.

If you would like to make a difference in the lives of those facing end-of-life issues, become a Hospice of Holland Volunteer! Please Contact Us for more information.
