Personal Treatment

Patients will be free:

From chemical and/or physical restraint unless authorized in writing by the attending physician for a specified and limited time, or in an emergency when it is necessary to protect the patient from injury to himself/herself or to others; also the restraint will only be applied by a qualified professional who states in writing the circumstances requiring the use of restraints and who will promptly report this action to the physician. If chemical restraints are used, the physician will be consulted within twenty-four hours after commencement of the restraint. From mental and physical abuse.

To associate and have private communications with any person of his/her choice; and to send and receive personal mail unopened on the same day it is received at the health facility or agency unless medically contraindicated as documented by the attending physician in the medical record.

A patients’ civil and religious liberties, including the right to independent personal decisions and the right to knowledge of available choices will not be infringed. Hospice will encourage and assist in the fullest possible exercise of these rights.
